One of the pleasures of editing the Journal of Mythic Art was discovering new talent (well new to us!). MySpace and Deviant Art are treasure troves of brilliant young artists successfully promoting themselves and their work on the web. Italian artist, Natalia (Nati) Pierandrei has been publishing her art for sometime on the web, and when Terri and I saw it, we included four of her wonderful drawings done in marker, watercolor and colored pencils in a group show Magic x Four -- which also included British artist Julia Jeffrey, Swedish artist Lisa Linnea, and American artist Kelly Louise Judd.
Over the last couple of years, Nati's work has become a favorite of many and she recently published a limited collection of her work Precious Things, The Art Of Natalia Pierendrei, 2007-2008 that pretty much sold out before it was released. I have to thank her so much for sending me one of those coveted copies as a gift, for which I am very grateful! Nati's work is a wonderful combination of fair tale imagery (at least I see the echo of an urban Red Riding Hood in the above image), renaissance art and art nouveau with its abundance of natural images intermingled with rich sensual details (oh the hair!).
Although the book is no longer available, you can see much of the work here, on Nati's website, and follow new work and events on her blog here. Boy, I would love to see a collaboration between Nati and Baba Studio that produces gorgeous silk bags with lush fairy tale imagery.
