Masters Women Finalists 45--50
It was pretty thrilling this last week to watch the Crossfit Games in California -- not only the younger ridiculously fit individual athletes and team affiliates compete -- but the Masters as well -- those athletes ranging from 45 to 60 plus. The games pull in athletes from around the world and for each category (45-49 50-54, 55-59, 60 plus) the 20 top athletes were selected. My husband went into the competition ranked 17th and finished 14th. But for trouble with handstand push ups (yup that's right, go up into a handstand and then lower and raise yourself in a push up) I think he might have placed higher.
My husband doing 21 unbroken overhead squats of 75#...first of three rounds.
All the Masters athletes were astonishing -- strong, agile, and tough. There was a lot of joking around the ice baths during breaks between the workouts, (i.e. "someone remind me again why the f**k I'm doing this") but they entered every heat ready to give it their all.
Jacinto Bonilla -- at 72, the oldest competitor and still he placed 8 overall in the 60plus and competed in the finals. Fortitude, stamina, and integrity.
