I confess sometimes I miss the days of typewriters -- in particular I miss my sage green, portable Olivetti typewriter in its zip up case that I carried with me to Europe when I was 17. I wrote a lot of good stuff on that sleek beast. And later, even when I was home, I wrote papers on it too. I had to give it up when I could no longer find a replacement ribbon...and then it was on to those bruiser electric Brother typewriters...not sexy at all.
So here is a hilarious post "How To Build A Newsroom Time Machine" about a return to the days of journalism by typewriter and photography by homemade darkrooms. What a blast:
"Want to freak out a newsroom full of college journalists? Sit them down at manual typewriters and ask them to plunk “2011″ onto a piece of paper. They’ll only make it halfway."
The project is called "All On Paper" at Florida Atlantic University -- and it turns out that old school tools have much to teach new school students.
